Mental Vs Physical

I think we can all agree that there is a certain degree of physicality when it comes to sports. Some sports, like football, require an extreme amount of physicality, where as a sport , like golf, requires less of the individual. Regardless being physically fit is a must when doing any sport. It is equally important as being mentally fit for the sport as well.

Too often we find ourselves training physically for cheer. We make sure we can, dance, lift up other human beings, jump flip , roll you name it. It requires a high level of endurance and physicality, so who wouldn't train to get stronger , faster, lighter, and to jump higher. However with the importance that is put on being physically tough, we often put our mental training on the back burner.

If you think about it, most , if not all, physical training requires some sort of mentality to get through. For instance, when running laps our body gives tel tell signs of getting tired. Aching on our side, our breath starts shortening, heart is pounding through the chest, and legs start to give. What keeps us going? or better yet how do we keep or body moving when it doesn't want to? That is where the mental part of our training takes place. Do you tell your self stop to get water? or do you tell your self that you only have one lap to go, you got this! If we choose the latter, we find ourselves getting better almost all the time, we begin to see results, thus improving our mental capacity to work out and get better. But this is only one side of the story. Sometimes or mentality relies on others.

To have a strong mental capacity it requires strong coaches and leaders as well. It is fair to say that a coach that yells and criticizes without offering any actual help, will wear ones mental capacity down. Having a strong, positive proactive leader will not only help ones mentality, but encourages the overall growth.

In conclusion, being mentally fit as an athlete is just as important as being physically fit. In order to grow ad succeed at being an athlete it requires you to balance how your training is going. We have  heard the saying no pain, no gain, but here's a new on for you, no brains, no gains.
